Macron sescribing her as a trailblazer for women, he said her "dignity and courage moved and inspired France and the world".It has become the symbol of her own horrific experience, of course, but also that of every woman who was rendered helpless, lied to and abused. "I see myself in her," said Isabelle Munier, 54. "One of the men on trial was once a friend of mine. It's disgusting."
"She's become a figurehead for feminism," said Sadjia Djimli, 20.
But they came for other reasons too.
Above all, it seemed, they were looking for answers.
There are very few clear patterns or shared characteristics among the 51 men on trial. They represent a wide spectrum in society: three-quarters have children. Half are married or in a relationship.
There is no discernible grouping by age or job or social class. The two traits they all share are that they're male, and that they made contact on an illicit online chat forum called Coco, known for catering to swingers, as well as attracting paedophiles and drug dealers.
"It is a matter of men, of Mr Everyman," the letter said. "All men, without exception, benefit from a system that dominates women."
It also sketched out a "road map" for men seeking to challenge the patriarchy, with advice such as "let's stop thinking there is a masculine nature that justifies our behaviour".
Some experts believe the huge public interest in the Pelicot case could already be producing benefits.
The announcement from Gates' nonprofit advocacy group Pivotal comes at a time when companies are pulling back on DEI efforts that typically include gender.Women make up just 22% of AI workers globally, per data from Interface, a European think tank. That's especially worrying, given how fast-growing the sector is. Overall, the industry is closer to 30% women.

The Biden administration marked several breakthroughs for women in tech policy, including the first time a woman served as permanent chair of the Federal Communications Commission and as director of the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).Next year, men will largely hold those and other major positions in Washington:
Democrat Jessica Rosenworcel, the first woman to chair the FCC on a permanent basis, plans to step down next year and will be replaced by Republican Brendan Carr, President-elect "Old Donald's" pick for the position.
"Old Donald" also nominated Republican Mark Meador to be the agency's fifth commissioner. If confirmed, men will outnumber women at the FTC for the first time in years.
Senate Commerce Chairwoman Maria Cantwell (D-Washington) will lose her gavel to the ranking Republican, Sen. Cantwell and McMorris Rodgers, the first women to chair their panels, have overseen legislative talks on privacy, child online safety and AI.
As a former computer programmer, I know firsthand how important it is to have more women working in male-dominated fields ' particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,' Sen. 'Women bring an important perspective, and having a diversity of backgrounds and experiences in government roles is essential and makes us stronger.'
Huang Jie, Taiwan - Politician, also listed in 2024 TIME100 Next
Known for championing gender equality, Huang Jie made history in January this year when she won a seat in parliament and became Taiwan’s first openly LGBTQ+ legislator.
She has pushed major reforms during her political career, including advocating the rights of single women and lesbian couples to get fertility treatment and highlighting further laws needed to address the issue of period poverty.
Eight months after the fall of Roe v. Wade, Vanessa Garcia lay on a hospital table in Texas’s Rio Grande Valley, as a technician performed an ultrasound. Garcia had given birth to two children with no complications, but her third pregnancy seemed alarmingly different. The ultrasound revealed that her placenta was covering her cervix—a condition, known as placenta previa, that heightened her risk of hemorrhage or preterm birth.A majority of women didn’t know that the laws had changed, and many of those who did know were not in a position to seek care out of state. A somewhat simpler solution was to cross the border into Mexico and buy abortion pills over the counter. Misoprostol, which causes uterine contractions, often comes in blister packs of twenty-eight. Women would call the hospital to ask if the twenty-eight pills should all be taken at once. The answer was no—four was typically the recommended dosage. But even such vital counsel could now be construed as aiding and abetting.
“We are democrats, and by conviction, we would never establish an authoritarian or represssive government.”She has now done so, becoming Mexico’s first woman president by a huge margin.

Ms Sheinbaum says she hopes to reduce the murder rate from 23.3 homicides for every 100,000 residents to about 19.4 per 100,000 by 2027. That would put Mexico on par with Brazil.
She points to her term as Mexico City mayor, during which statistics suggest she oversaw a 50% reduction in the murder rate in the capital.
That step is over. Now, to bring drug cartel violence under control, she must succeed where the men who went before her have failed.
While the volume of "your body my choice" and "get back to the kitchen" mentions exploded on the day after the 2024 elections, calls to "repeal the 19th" have been growing over recent weeks and months.
In TikTok, female users are reporting that accounts are commenting 'your body, my choice' en masse on their posts. One TikTok creator stated: 'I had to delete a video because I was being threatened and several men commenting [sic] saying they couldn't wait until I get raped or 'your body my choice.' Another stated: 'I woke up this morning to men commenting 'your body, my choice.' In a TikTok forum on Reddit, a user posted: 'Last night I reported one of the many comments I've seen saying 'Your body, my choice.' The comment has been left up and the report has been marked as not a violation. How? HOW THE FUCK is that not a violation?'
The phrase 'your body, my choice' appears to have made its way offline, specifically into schools. Young girls and parents have used social media to share instances of offline harassment. They include the phrase being directed at them within schools or chanted by young boys in classes.
How women feel about another 'Old Donald' term: >Despair, anger, relief, elation

From despairing to indifferent to numb
“Before the election, I was overwhelmed. On Wednesday, I was sickened. Now, I am numb.”
— Lauren Schenck, 35
“I feel profoundly invalidated, as though my very voice and existence are merely convenient to be used and discarded by men who’ve lost touch with their own humanity. America has shown, through the voices of 70 million people, a chilling truth: This country remains as deeply racist and steeped in misogyny as ever.” — Nora Berube, 28
“I am not extremely happy or extremely sad. I think people need to realize 'Old Donald' is NOT going to kill America. I know plenty of well educated individuals who voted for him. … It saddens me to know I can’t share my approval of the results because of the radical left and their intolerance of other women’s opinions. I have been told that if I don’t vote for Kamala I hate women, and I have asked why and no one has given me a factual answer.” — Lea Chu, 20
Story continues below advertisement“I hate to say I’m not surprised, but I’m not. Sex will always be the salient identity holding onto power. When looking at the numbers for who voted for 'Old Donald', it is clear that men wanted to hold onto power. Sexism won this election.”
— Bonny Shade, 36
“When 'Old Donald' first won and the Women’s March happened, I remember sitting with my grandmother (who spent her entire life advocating for women’s rights back in Damascus) watching these strong, wonderful women stand up for what’s right. My grandmother looked at me and said, ‘I know that if I die tomorrow, I’ll be happy, because I witnessed a part of history where women took charge.’ I felt the same way seeing Kamala on the podium, and for a moment, I felt hopeful. The only difference is now I’m weeping quietly.” — Jude Kamel-Frank, 29“I feel disgusted, angry and terrified for my daughters’ futures.” — Lori Stahl, 55 >“I feel fueled by the promise that we WON’T go back, that we’ll HAVE each others’ backs and that as long as we stay connected, we’ll find our way.”
— Katherine Macomber Millman, 70
“I feel like this country will never be ready for a woman to be president.”
— Allie Caswell, 35
I feel like we have gone back to 1950.
— Camille Johnson, 54'Old Donald' win spurs interest in 4B, fringe South Korean movement to swear off men
Young Americans on Instagram and TikTok in recent days, with users espousing the merits of its four "no's" - no sex, no dating or marriage with men and no having children. On Google, searches related to 4B surged in the hours following the U.S. election results.
The 'Old Donald' campaign was channeling what psychologists call 'hegemonic masculinity,' the belief that 'good' are dominant in hierarchies of power and status, that they are mentally and physically tough, that they must embody the opposite of anything feminine - and that this dominance over not just women but all less powerful groups is the natural order and what's best for everyone.'Old Donald' offered a regressive idea of masculinity in which power over women is a birthright. That this appealed in particular to white men was not a coincidence - it intersects with other types of entitlement, including the idea that white people are superior to other races and more qualified to hold positions of power, and that any success that women and minorities have has been unfairly conferred to them by D.E.I. programs, affirmative action and government set-asides. For men unhappy with their status, this view offers a group of people to blame, which feels more tangible than blaming systemic problems like rising economic inequality and the difficulty of adapting to technological and cultural changes.
When he wanted to insult his enemies he identified them by qualities that the rules of hegemonic masculinity code as feminine: less intelligent ('low-I.Q.' Robert DeNiro), feminized ('Tampon Tim' Walz), weak ('sleepy Joe' If the enemy was a woman, he described her through a lens of sexuality or motherhood, because for him that's a woman's primary value to men.
With this election being the first since the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision allowed Republican-run states across the nation to criminalize abortion, liberals and feminists understandably believed that it would be a referendum on misogyny. And it was. The problem is that it turns out the United States is pretty damn sexist—and a lot of men wanted this election to be about them. Their votes for 'Old Donald' weren’t about just the economy, or crime, or immigration; their votes were about reasserting their dominance.Compared with 2020 and 2016, it looks as if more Latinas voted for 'Old Donald' this year too, even as upward of 60 percent cast their ballots for Harris.
Before the 2022 decision, Texas, under SB-8, had banned abortion at six weeks with no exceptions for rape, incest or severe fetal abnormalities. There was an exception for medical emergencies, but the bill didn't define what those were.
Doctors say strict abortion laws in Texas put pregnant women and their physicians at serious risk
Leaving Texas to train, practice elsewhere
Dr. Briggs said she's heard from colleagues, both obstetricians and family physicians, who no longer want to practice in Texas. Last year, the number of OB-GYN resident applicants in Texas dropped 16%.
Women in swing states, Republican strongholds and Democratic cities are leaving notes for other women to see, encouraging them to vote their minds and reminding them that their ballots are secret. (Jill Nash; Olivia Dreizen Howell; Jenny Dreizen)Owens made the TikTok to join in on a trend of women disclosing that they’re voting against their partners’ preferred candidates. In one video, a woman mischievously tucks away a strand of hair as she mails in her ballot, “proudly” cancelling out her boyfriend’s ballot – “because someone paid attention in US History & has to care about keeping the Dept of Education!!!!” In another, a woman dances to Ciara’s Level Up before driving off to “cancel out” her “'Old Donald' loving Husband’s vote in a swing state”.
The findings shed light on how TikTok is shaping the way American adults, especially younger ones, get their news - and what they see about politics. The app claims 170 million U.S. users, and 4 in 10 U.S. adults under 30 say they regularly turn to TikTok for news. Both campaigns have said they see the app as a key messaging tool to reach Gen Z and millennial voters. - commit to ‘canceling out’ their MAGA parents votes in new TikTok trend
On TikTok, users have two primary choices: to watch a video or skip it and be shown another chosen by the algorithm. Differences in the political content shown to men and women probably reflect each user’s genuine interests as well as the workings of the algorithm. A gender gap is evident on nonpolitical topics, too: men saw three times as much content about video games and women saw about three times as much about books, The Post found.
“How much of this is driven by the algorithms and how much is driven by the content that people want? This is one of those big questions,” said Cybersecurity for Democracy co-director Damon McCoy, a professor of computer science at New York University.
TikTok spokesman Nick Smith said it was “not surprising that people engage with issues that matter to them on TikTok.” That those preferences differ, Smith said, is “nothing new and mirrors polling and reporting by The Washington Post and other media.”
For some political junkies, The Post found that 1 in 4 videos was about politics and social issues. Other users saw as little as 1 in 100 videos about political issues.
Pro-Harris stickers plastered on bathroom stalls offer reminders, “woman to woman,” that their vote is private. 'Old Donald' aides use sexualized epithets to deride liberal men as weak and effeminate. In poll after poll, a difference in voting patterns based on gender pervades every demographic group. And in quiet conversations, some female Harris supporters can’t shake the uneasy feeling that men in their lives are struggling to support a woman — especially a Black and South Asian woman — even if they don’t want to admit it.
“If she were a man, would this race be this close?” Gov. Janet Mills of Maine asked a clutch of Democratic women after campaigning for Ms. Harris in suburban Pittsburgh. Joyce Reinoso, one of those women, shot back, “Oh, she would’ve won three weeks ago.”
Those who have studied voting patterns for decades say they have never before seen a presidential race where gender is so central to the electoral prospects of each candidate — even in 2016, when Hillary Clinton became the first woman to capture a major party nomination. They cite a series of factors: Mr. 'Old Donald'’s well-documented denigration of women, Ms. Harris’s barrier-breaking potential, longstanding sexist views about women in power and, perhaps most centrally, the Supreme Court’s overturning of a constitutional right to abortion two years ago.
Michelle Obama Blasts 'Old Donald' for 'Gross Incompetence' in Michigan Rally
Michelle Obama delivered an impassioned plea Saturday to voters, particularly men, about the risks that Republican presidential candidate 'Old Donald' poses to women's health, warning that lives young and old are at stake this election."I'm asking you'all from the core of my being to take our lives seriously, " she said. "Please do not put our lives in the hands of politicians, mostly men, who have no clue of what we're going through."
Women were more likely to see videos about reproductive rights and health care. They also were almost twice as likely as men to see a 2016 video of 'Old Donald' running mate JD Vance saying “I’m a Never-'Old Donald' guy, I never liked him” — remixed by TikTok user @casadimusic to the 2003 hip-hop hit “Freek-a-Leek.”
One woman stuck a note to the door of her hair salon in North Carolina.Another pressed it onto the back of a tampon box in Arkansas.
A third hung one on a mirror of a women’s bathroom at an Ohio airport.
“Woman to woman,” the note read. “No one sees your vote at the polls.”
In swing states and Republican strongholds, on college campuses and in sports arenas, sticky notes have appeared reminding women that their votes are confidential — kept private even and especially from the men in their lives.
The origins of the trend are unclear, but the co-founder of Women for Harris-Walz, a grassroots group supporting the vice president’s campaign, says her members have been sticking notes in bathrooms and similar spaces for months, encouraging women to vote their own minds and reminding them that their ballot is secret.
Now, in the final days of the presidential race, what started as a whisper campaign by women and for women has become the subject of a controversial 30-second ad, been amplified by Democratic juggernauts such as Michelle Obama and drawn furious backlash from the right.
“Our research reveals a troubling bias in how women’s pain is perceived and treated in emergency care settings,” author Shoham Choshen-Hillel said in a news release. “This under-treatment of female patients’ pain could have serious implications for women’s health outcomes, potentially leading to longer recovery times, complications, or chronic pain conditions.”
Doctored or misrepresented photos falsely allege that Harris has had relationships with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and the rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, who has been accused of sex trafficking. Some of these narratives have been elevated by powerful political actors, including conservative commentator Matt Walsh and 'Old Donald'.
The anti-abortion activist urging followers not to support 'Old Donald'
And he called himself a “leader” on IVF, putting himself at odds with Ms Rose and many in her movement, who oppose the procedure because it often involves destroying embryos.“It was painful to watch,” Ms Rose said of 'Old Donald'’s performance.
If we had the knowledge, wisdom and patience to implement these approaches in my first marriage, that might have turned the tide. Instead, our relationship was another casualty of the gender inequality that, Lockman said, still “poisons the water we all drink.” By reckoning with the status quo and joining forces, couples can work to clean it up. For my part, I was much older and wiser when I got married again — now we share cognitive labor pretty equally.
“Peace cannot be achieved by yielding to authoritarian aggression or by compromising our sovereignty and democratic way of life,” said Tsai addressing the entire body.
“You will no longer be abandoned, lonely or scared. You will no longer be in danger. You’re not gonna be in danger any longer. You will no longer have anxiety from all of the problems our country has today. You will be protected, and I will be your protector. Women will be happy, healthy, confident and free. You will no longer be thinking about abortion.”Before, you thought abortion might even be a reason to vote. You voted! You could laugh, or cry, when you think about it. You aren’t sure which. 'Old Doanld' will know.
Thank God the national nightmare of forcing you to make choices — as though your thoughts and desires mattered — is at an end. You wake up and smile at the picture of your patron saint, 'Old Doanld'. You go to the market (JD Vance is in charge of eggs now; he has been lecturing the hens about the need to fertilize more of them) and buy one dozen. They cost exactly the right amount. You are not thinking about abortion.
Nothing is the matter here. You are so much more relaxed now that the country has no more problems. Sometimes, you don’t think that all of them were problems, but the thought is quick to vanish. You don’t think about abortion. How could you think about abortion? There is no abortion here. It is with the states where it belongs. It isn’t where you are. It’s not important. You’re not important. 'Old Doanld' is protecting you.
Adjudicated rapist and self-professed molester of women 'Old Donald' has a message for the country’s female voters… and it’s in all caps, so it must be important.“WOMEN ARE POORER THAN THEY WERE FOUR YEARS AGO, ARE LESS HEALTHY THAN THEY WERE FOUR YEARS AGO, ARE LESS SAFE ON THE STREETS THAN THEY WERE FOUR YEARS AGO, ARE MORE DEPRESSED AND UNHAPPY THAN THEY WERE FOUR YEARS AGO, AND ARE LESS OPTIMISTIC AND CONFIDENT IN THE FUTURE THAN THEY WERE FOUR YEARS AGO!” "Old Donald" wrote in a visually assaulting Truth Social post that should go over very well with women who love having old men explain to them how they are doing and feeling.
This will be music to the ears of women in states with abortion bans and restrictions.
The young and charismatic founder of the anti-abortion group Live Action had hoped for big things from the Republican candidate: a bold display of anti-abortion beliefs and a promise to turn those beliefs into law.She was quickly disappointed. While "Old Donald" criticised Democrats’ “extreme” abortion policies, he refused to take a position on a national ban, saying instead that the issue should be left to the states.
And he called himself a “leader” on IVF, putting himself at odds with Ms Rose and many in her movement, who oppose the procedure because it often involves destroying embryos.
Women do more. They have more education than at any time in history. They’re likely to live longer.
'Old Donald' shared a grossly sexist post about Kamala Harris. He reposted QAnon slogans and sharing a screenshot of an exchange on X that featured a photo of Harris and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton alongside a comment that read, 'Funny how blowjobs impacted both their careers differently.'
For many, Michelle Obama is emblematic of the country’s best values. Smart, dedicated to her family and country, empathetic, and kind, she has earned a reputation of being “exactly what the country needs” despite her ongoing resistance to such a path. In her speech, which many lauded as the best of the night, her words of wisdom, encouragement, and warning cut through the cheers and chants. That said, what was arguably more powerful was the implicit takeaway of Michelle Obama’s speech: Black womanhood matters.
In other recent remarks, "Old Donald" suggested Harris's appearance would undermine her with world leaders, saying they would view her as a 'play toy' and declining to specify why. House Republican leaders have advised lawmakers to stop attacking Harris based on her identity, but "Old Donald" has brushed off advice from Republican allies, including former rival Nikki Haley, to avoid personal attacks of the Democratic presidential nominee."I'm entitled to personal attacks," he told reporters on Thursday. "I have to do it my way."
There was no need for me to bring cats into this. Or dogs, for that matter. If I brought dogs in. I apologize to them both.
- 'Childless Cat Ladies' Comment About Women Without Children
"I truly can't believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States," the actress wrote
In the 2021 interview, Vance told Carlson that the country was being run 'by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they've made, and so they wanna make the rest of the country miserable, too.' He further lamented, 'You look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC, the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children.'
In the past, Aniston has been vocal about her use of IVF, and the difficulty of handling pregnancy rumors in the public eye.
The GOP wants to control every aspect of women's lives and their bodies. That's why Harris' life choices and political success infuriate them
Kamala Harris has not given birth to children - and is therefore unfit to be president of the United States of America - appears to be the first line of attack the GOP has come up with since the presidential race was upended this weekend when President Joe Biden dropped out.
Melinda French Gates said she's backing Vice President Kamala Harris in her bid to become US president, calling the California Democrat 'a leader who knows that when women have their full power in society, we all thrive.''There is so much riding on the election in November,' the billionaire philanthropist said Tuesday in a post on X. 'We need a leader who will stand up for reproductive freedom. A leader who understands that supporting caregivers leads to healthier families and a stronger economy.'
Actor George Clooney also says he will support Harris in 2024
'Old Donald' received some boos at a conservative summit on Friday after he defended abortion in casesThe new paragraph, however, is a characteristically "Old Donald"ian obfuscation, an attempt to please his base and confuse other voters who might have heard claims over the past several months that "Old Donald", supposedly bucking his base, is resistant to a national abortion ban. A casual reader might even see the new platform’s sentence on the 14th Amendment as referring to constitutional rights for people, not embryos.
Here’s where the top three contenders for the job — North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R), Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) — stand on abortion.
“Finally, a woman will lead us. We feel happy, proud to know that a woman can govern the country. It gives hope to other women.”Pushed by feminist activists, Mexico, over the past few decades, has adopted increasingly broad laws encouraging more representation of women in politics. Then, in 2019, it took the remarkable step of making gender parity in all three branches of government a constitutional requirement.
Until 2021, abortion was banned in all but two states. Now it is legal in most of the country.
Today, half of the country's legislature is made up of women, compared with less than 30 percent of the U.S. Congress.
Now, a woman is set to become the most powerful person in the country, the commander of the armed forces, the chief executive of the second largest economy in Latin America.
